These shoes are a replica of ancient Chinese shoes worn by women with bound feet. The ancient Chinese custom of foot binding took place because smaller feet were considered more beautiful. The strange shape of the shoe fit to the deformed shape of a bound foot. Foot binding has been illegal in China since the ending of the last dynasty in 1911. These replica shoes were purchased from a shop in Singapore. I took this shot because I recently came back from a trip to Singapore this past August.
