circles and squares
Film Due: 2.19
Contact Sheet Due: 2.22
Print Due: 3.7
Assignment: To creatively illustrate each of the principles of design using line, circles, and squares. Using only 2 elements of art (line and shape), you will demonstrate your knowledge of composition and photography by creatively composing images which focus on each of the principles of design. One image may contain more than one principle of design, but only one should be the main focus of the image. QED, you make take a photograph of a bunch of bottle caps (circles) and it would be about repetition, even if they are slightly varied... but it all depends on how you arrange them and then how you compose the photograph. Experiment with using a short depth of field with some of your shots (largest aperture opening). Do not stay in your house to take these photographs! Go out and explore!!
Principles of Design:
Emphasis
Variation
Repetition
Balance
Movement
To Do:
Shoot a roll of film of at least 15 shots illustrating all 5 principles of design (3 shots of each)
Contact sheet: you will be graded on content (creativity and composition) and craftsmanship (shooting, rolling, developing, printing)
Exposure Log: (see attached) must be filled out properly!
Darkroom Journal: (see attached) must be filled out properly!
Print: Choose your best shot to print 5x7
the back of your print must contain the following information :
your name and the date
the assignment and the principle of design
time and filter it was printed with
